New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) has informed the Government of India about sightings of Chinese spy balloons over Indian airspace, prompting a review of security measures.
Cording to reports, an IAF Rafale fighter jet shot down one balloon hovering at nearly 55,000 feet along the eastern front with China.
The Rafale, stationed at Hasimara in northern West Bengal, engaged the balloon using one of its onboard missiles. In response to these incidents, the IAF is formulating a standard operating procedure to address similar aerial threats.
Moreover, another Chinese balloon was detected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal, but it was not engaged.
The government is reviewing these developments to strengthen national security protocols.
