New Delhi, November 4, 2024—The Supreme Court postponed a hearing scheduled for today on the petition of Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.
Initially set for Monday, the hearing will now take place on November 18 due to unforeseen reasons.
Meanwhile, the central government has submitted its response to the court.
Rajoana’s petition seeks to have his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment, citing a prolonged delay in the government’s response to his mercy plea.
The petitioner argues that he has spent nearly 28 years in jail awaiting a final decision.
