Deoria: Two men accused of sexually harassing two schoolgirls were arrested on Monday after being injured in a police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria, officials said.
The suspects, Dheeraj Patel and Ritik, aged 18-20, allegedly opened fire when police surrounded them based on a tip-off, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Deependra Nath Chowdhury.
Both suspects were shot in the legs during the exchange of gunfire, and two country-made pistols along with cartridges were recovered from the scene, he said.
The injured men were taken to a hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable, he added.
