Mumbai: Seven people, including three minors, died in a fire that broke out in a shop-cum-residential building in Mumbai’s Chembur area early Sunday morning, according to fire officials.
According to reports, the blaze started around 5:20 am at Siddharth Colony, affecting a double-storey structure with a shop on the ground floor and living quarters above.
Officials identified the victims as Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15), and Gitadevi Dharamdev Gupta (60), were pronounced dead after being taken to Rajawadi Hospital.
The fire, categorized as ‘level one,’ was initially confined to the shop’s electrical wiring but quickly spread to the upper floor, the official said.
Emergency services, including fire engines and water tankers, responded and extinguished the fire by 9:15 am. However, the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, he added.
