Chandigarh, 14 October, 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has designated Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav as central observers tasked with overseeing the selection of a new leader for the BJP legislature party in Haryana, according to a letter from party national general secretary Arun Singh.
The development shows the BJP’s commitment to a smooth and orderly selection process for the new Haryana leader, following the party’s electoral victory in the state assembly elections.
During the election campaign, Amit Shah said that Nayab Singh Saini would be reinstated as Chief Minister if the BJP retained power.
The appointment of these observers is set to initiate crucial internal discussions within the party, as various factions vie for influence while ensuring a seamless leadership transition.
Notably, senior BJP figures Anil Vij and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh have publicly expressed their aspirations for the Chief Minister position based on seniority.
Shah’s involvement as an observer reflects the BJP’s emphasis on maintaining unity and effectively managing the political landscape after the elections, particularly as it relates to Saini’s potential reinstatement as Chief Minister, as per the Political analysts.
According to party sources, the central observers are scheduled to meet with Haryana’s 48 newly elected BJP legislators on October 16, the day before the swearing-in ceremony in Panchkula.
The ceremony on October 17 is anticipated to draw prominent figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, and Chief Ministers from BJP-led states, marking a historic occasion as the BJP embarks on its third consecutive term in Haryana, having won a record-breaking 48 seats.
Despite facing various challenges, such as anti-incumbency sentiments and opposition from groups like farmers, wrestlers, and youth, the BJP successfully clinched victory.
The party’s strategy for forming the new Cabinet will likely consider regional dynamics and caste factors to ensure a balanced representation, as stated by party sources.
