CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, Sept 18: Amritsar Commissionerate Police on Thursday announced the arrest of six alleged drug traffickers, including two women, and the seizure of more than nine kilograms of heroin in two separate operations targeting cross-border narcotic networks. Officials said the crackdown is part of Punjab’s continuing drive against narco-terror modules under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the accused were tied to a cartel operated by foreign-based gangster Harpreet, alias Happy Jatt, a native of Jandiala Guru. “Preliminary investigation indicates that Happy Jatt maintained direct contact with smugglers across the border and was using social media platforms to coordinate the trafficking,” Yadav mentioned.

Those arrested have been identified as Honey (18), Parmdeep Singh alias Paras (18), and Harwinder Singh alias Hinda (19), all from Jandiala Guru; Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (25) of village Dande; Jasbir Kaur (40) of village Dhala in Tarn Taran; and Kulwinder Kaur (54) of village Haveliyan in Tarn Taran.

The DGP said that two separate FIRs have been registered at Police Station Chheharta and that further inquiries are underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the network. “We are probing cross-border connections to dismantle the wider syndicate,” he noted.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar provided details of the operations. In the first case, police initially detained Honey with 20 grams of heroin. His interrogation led to the arrest of his associate Parmdeep, who was found with 5.032 kg of the drug. Two more members, Harwinder and Gurpreet, were later taken into custody. Gurpreet was carrying an additional 3.010 kg heroin, raising the total recovery from this group to 8.062 kg.

According to Bhullar, Gurpreet and Parmdeep had been receiving drug consignments dropped by drones at designated spots such as garbage dumps or marked poles. “The heroin was distributed further on the instructions of Happy Jatt,” he said.

In the second operation, police arrested Jasbir Kaur and Kulwinder Kaur with 1.004 kg heroin. Jasbir Kaur, according to investigators, was directly in touch with smugglers across the border. Bhullar added that both modules were receiving consignments from the same Pakistan-based handlers.

Police said the seizures follow another major bust just a day earlier, when Amritsar Police arrested Yasin Mohammed, an operative of Moga-based trafficker Jagpreet Singh alias Jagga, with 7.1 kg heroin.

Cases under sections 21-B, 21-C, and 29 of the NDPS Act have been registered in connection with the latest arrests.
