CHANDIGARH, AUGUST 12: Senior Member of the United Kingdom Parliament and Chairman of the UK Parliament’s Defence Committee, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, declared that expanding international air connectivity and establishing swift resolution mechanisms for non-resident Indian property cases remain crucial for the holistic development of Punjab.
During a detailed meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann at the Punjab Legislative Assembly complex, Dhesi stated that the Punjabi diaspora requires a robust mechanism to resolve land and property disputes within a fixed timeframe.
He maintained that streamlined administrative procedures would save overseas Punjabis from prolonged litigation and repeated international travel.
Addressing aviation infrastructure, the UK Parliamentarian affirmed that Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Chandigarh possess the potential to serve as major aviation and commercial hubs for North India.
He asserted that increasing direct international flight connections to destinations such as London and Birmingham, alongside boosting cargo infrastructure, would significantly strengthen trade, tourism, and investment across the state.
Dhesi further maintained that international cooperation between law enforcement authorities in India, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the United States is essential to address extortion threats targeting business leaders and sports promoters, thereby safeguarding diaspora confidence.
He also highlighted the broader utility of the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor in promoting peace and regional harmony.
Welcoming the visiting parliamentarian during the ongoing legislative assembly session, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann praised Dhesi’s continuous advocacy for diaspora welfare. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Parmjeet Singh Raipur also accompanied the UK delegation during the high-level meeting.
