Ludhiana, May 31: To ensure strict compliance with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) ahead of the upcoming Ludhiana West bypoll, the deputy commissioner’s office has issued a notice to the general secretary of Sutlej Club for allegedly displaying political hoardings on club premises.
During a routine inspection, district officials found multiple hoardings supporting a particular political party inside the private club, raising concerns about potential MCC violations.
Authorities have demanded an explanation from the club regarding the intent and authorisation behind the installation of the advertisements. “Private institutions are not exempt from election laws and must seek prior permission before putting up any political material,” said a senior official.
Describing the issue as “serious,” the official added that such displays could influence voter sentiment during the election period.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C reviewed election preparedness via video conference with Ludhiana’s DC and police commissioner on May 29. He stressed the need for strict MCC enforcement, rapid response to complaints, and close monitoring of paid news. He also instructed officials to ensure adequate arrangements for polling staff.
