Chandigarh, January 27 – After a brief respite, cold weather has returned to Punjab, with temperatures dropping steadily.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave today, impacting several parts of the state for the next 24 hours.
While the cold wave is expected to subside tomorrow, the department has predicted two consecutive days of rain at the month’s end.
The cold wave alert applies to 13 districts, including Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, and Bathinda. Majha and Doaba regions are under the warning, while Malwa remains unaffected, with clear weather predicted in most areas.
A new Western Disturbance is expected to become active from January 29, likely bringing rain to Majha and Doaba regions on January 30-31.
Districts such as Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Tarn Taran may witness rain, but dry weather is forecasted for Malwa during the week.
The approaching Western Disturbance is also anticipated to cause snowfall and rain in Himachal Pradesh, which could lead to colder temperatures in Punjab due to icy winds from the hills.
