Chandigarh, December 30, 2024: The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has facilitated free religious pilgrimages for over 33,500 devotees through the Mukh Mantri Teerth Yatra Yojana. Launched on November 27, 2023, to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the scheme embodies teachings of peace and brotherhood.
The scheme covers travel, food, and accommodation costs for pilgrims visiting places like Sri Hazur Sahib, Varanasi, Mathura, Ajmer Sharif, Sri Vaishno Devi, and many others. Travel options include dedicated buses and trains, each accommodating up to 43 passengers per bus.
Pilgrims also receive free kits comprising essentials like bedsheets, blankets, towels, and toiletries. Teams of doctors, volunteers, and officials accompany travelers to ensure safety and address emergencies.
Eligibility for the scheme includes Punjab residency, age above 60, and submission of documents such as voter ID, Aadhaar, and health certificates. Those aged 75 and older can be accompanied by a younger caregiver. Beneficiaries are notified via SMS upon selection, ensuring a seamless process.
