Ferozepur, 21 November 2024: Three accused were arrested today by Ferozepur police in connection with a botched robbery attempt at two banks in Zira town. The suspects tried to break into the cash safes and lockers of HDFC Bank and Bank of Baroda, but their efforts failed. In their desperate attempt, they resorted to stealing laptops from the banks instead.
The thieves then targeted Bank of Baroda again but were unsuccessful. However, they managed to flee the scene with a Dunali and live cartridges that were left unattended by the security guard. According to police, the ringleader of the group had taken loans from multiple banks, and after failing to repay, he hatched a plan to rob the banks.
The group, inspired by bank robbery incidents they had seen on social media, used these methods to execute their plan. During questioning, the suspects admitted to their actions, stating that they resorted to theft due to financial difficulties.
The police have seized the stolen items, including the weapons, and a case has been registered against the accused. Further investigation is underway.
