Chandigarh, March 30 — The Chandigarh Police suspended ASI Ranjit, ASI Sewa Singh, and senior constable Deepak from the Sector 31 police station on Saturday following allegations of brutality at the Hallomajra police post. The action comes after a formal complaint accused the officers of assaulting two men, Gobind Kumar and Rohit Kumar.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred on March 16 when Gobind received a distress call from Rohit, reporting that two girls, Meenakshi and Sakshi, were being abused by their father at their Hallomajra residence. The two men rushed to the police post seeking intervention but found the girls already there, visibly distressed. The complaint alleges that instead of protecting the girls, the police had assaulted them.

When Gobind and Rohit urged the officers to handle the matter sensitively, they were allegedly beaten with sticks, punches, and kicks. Rohit, who had a prior spinal injury, was reportedly struck in the spine, causing him to lose consciousness.

An ambulance was called, and Rohit was rushed to GMCH-32 with a fractured thumb, severe facial swelling, and head and spinal injuries.
