Chandigarh/Panchkula, Feb 9: The Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Panchkula district court were placed under lockdown on Monday following anonymous bomb threats. The situations led to the immediate evacuation of judges, lawyers, and litigants as police personnel took control of the buildings for security screening.
The threat in Panchkula arrived via email, leading to a swift response from the Haryana Police. Officials mobilized sniffer dog units and bomb disposal experts to inspect the complex for any hazardous materials.
“A thorough search is being conducted in the court complex,” the police directly said, highlighting the ongoing efforts to secure the site.
A similar wave of panic hit the Punjab and Haryana High Court after a threat was received regarding the presence of an explosive device. Security teams ensured the entire complex was emptied before beginning a floor-by-floor inspection.
“As a precautionary measure, the entire High Court complex was evacuated,” authorities noted during the operation.
Police have maintained a heavy presence at both locations, with entry points restricted until the search operations are completed. Investigators are looking into whether the threats are linked and are working with cyber experts to trace the origin of the electronic communication sent to the Panchkula court.
