New Delhi, Nov 5: Two individuals lost their lives on Thursday morning following the sudden collapse of a three-storey under-construction building in Old Delhi’s bustling Chawri Bazaar area. The incident triggered a swift multi-agency emergency response from the Delhi Fire Services after concerns arose that several workers and passersby could be trapped beneath the rubble.
The control room received an urgent distress call at approximately 10:15 AM reporting the structural failure at Gali Sattara in Sheesh Mahal, located directly opposite the Chawri Bazaar Metro station. Responders were informed that an ongoing construction structure had caved in, creating immediate fears regarding individuals trapped under fallen masonry and concrete.
Emergency services dispatched an array of specialized equipment, initially sending two water tenders, a water bowser, a quick response vehicle, and an incident response team to manage the site. As officials conducted an initial assessment of the heavy debris, additional personnel alongside Assistant Divisional Officer Rajesh Shukla were deployed to reinforce and oversee the ongoing search operations.
Local authorities maintained that efforts to clear the site and confirm the total number of occupants present inside the premises at the time of the collapse remain underway.
