JIND, June 3: Two men allegedly involved in a string of extortion-related firing incidents were apprehended following a police encounter in Jind on Tuesday. Both suspects sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire and are currently undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.

The accused were identified as key suspects in the May 27 firing outside a factory in Barsola village, where they allegedly demanded ₹50 lakh from the owner before opening fire and fleeing the scene.

Later the same day, the duo, riding a motorcycle with their faces masked and wearing caps, were seen at the Khatkar toll plaza. According to police, they fired three rounds in the air before speeding off toward Uchana town.

Their next target was the Balaji Seeds Store in Uchana Mandi. “The pillion rider opened fire at the shop without getting off the bike. The bullets shattered the glass frontage, and one of them pointed a gun at me before fleeing,” said shopkeeper Surender Garg.

Police sources said the suspects had been under surveillance, and their capture followed a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. Investigators are now probing whether the arrested men are part of a larger extortion racket.

“A thorough investigation is underway to determine if additional individuals were involved in planning or executing the attacks,” said a senior police official.
