Chandigarh, July 11: Chandigarh Police arrested two men within hours of an armed attack outside a residence in Hallo Majra during the intervening night of July 10–11.
The accused—Vinod (38) of Phase II, Ram Darbar, and Hardev Singh (33) of Mankiya village in Panchkula—were apprehended under the supervision of Inspector Rajiv Kumar, Station House Officer of Police Station Sector 31.
One pistol and a country-made firearm (desi katta) were recovered during the arrest, police said. The incident took place around 12:50 am, when Amit Jaiswal, a resident of Deep Complex, Hallo Majra, heard gunshots shortly after returning home.
“I looked outside and saw a masked man firing at my house. He later shot in my direction. When I stepped out, I saw two individuals fleeing through an empty plot nearby,” Jaiswal said in his complaint.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Arms Act.
Vinod, a chair maker by profession, has a lengthy criminal history with multiple cases registered against him, including those related to assault, criminal intimidation, and illegal arms possession. Hardev Singh, a carpenter, has no prior criminal record, police said.
Both men are scheduled to be produced in court on July 12. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and whether it was linked to any prior enmity or gang rivalry.
