BATHINDA, June 14 — Two men arrested in connection with the murder of influencer Kanchan Kumari (popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi) have been sent to two-day police remand, Bathinda police confirmed on Friday. The accused, Jaspreet Singh and Nimaratjeet Singh, were presented in court in the evening.

Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal said both are being questioned as the police continue efforts to nab the main accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, who remains absconding. Amritpal released a video message on Friday claiming responsibility for the killing and threatening other influencers who he believes promote “vulgarity” on social media.

The murder has triggered a storm, with reactions pouring in from across Punjab and beyond. While some Nihang groups and religious individuals expressed support for Amritpal’s actions, others condemned the killing outright, calling it unlawful and dangerous vigilantism. Many Sikh organisations distanced themselves from the act, warning against misuse of faith to justify violence.

Adding to the tension, influencer Preet Jatti posted a video saying she received a threatening call from abroad, warning her to stop uploading content. “I have a small baby and don’t post anything inappropriate. I’m frightened,” she said in the video, which has since drawn wide attention.

The case has sparked a broader conversation about content regulation, personal freedom, and online safety, particularly for female creators. Police say they are pursuing Amritpal with urgency and have warned that no one will be allowed to bypass the law in the name of morality.
