New Delhi, Feb 15: A week-long search for a missing Indian postgraduate student in California ended in tragedy as local police confirmed the death of Saketh Sreenivasaiah. The 22-year-old University of California, Berkeley student had not been seen since Monday, sparking a missing person investigation that drew national attention. Before the discovery of his body, investigators noted that his personal belongings, including his passport, were found abandoned in the Park Hills area.
The Indian Consulate in San Francisco has stepped in to manage the transition and provide relief to the student’s family in India. The mission asserted that its officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services. This support includes overseeing the sensitive process of transporting Sreenivasaiah back to his home state of Karnataka.
The diplomatic mission expressed its grief while ensuring that every resource is being utilized to assist the bereaved. The Consulate maintained that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. Regarding the next steps for the family, the Consulate declared it stands ready to provide all necessary assistance, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of mortal remains to India at the earliest.
