Udhampur, Feb 4: A joint counter-terror operation in Udhampur’s Basantgarh region ended on Wednesday with the elimination of two terrorists. The operation was initiated after Jammu and Kashmir Police provided actionable intelligence about movements in the dense Jophar Forest.
Security forces established contact with the group on Tuesday, leading to a prolonged engagement. To prevent any chance of escape, the CRPF and local police reinforced the outer cordon while Army troops focused on the specific location where the terrorists had taken cover.
“Contact with the terrorists was established on Tuesday, and they were continuously engaged to stop them from breaking the cordon. Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised,” the White Knight Corps stated in a social media post.
Officials noted that the terrorists were found holed up inside a cave within the forest during the final stages of the mission. The Army mentioned that the success of the operation was a result of high-level professionalism and inter-agency cooperation. Surveillance of the forest area is ongoing, though the primary tactical phase has reached its conclusion.
