Chandigarh, 7 January 2025: Pt. Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS) has announced plans to introduce an on-the-spot evaluation system for exam papers of medical and paramedical courses, including MBBS and BDS. The initiative, aimed at ensuring faster result declaration and curbing potential misconduct, marks a significant shift in the university’s evaluation process.
Dr. H.K. Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor of UHS, highlighted the novelty of the system. “For the first time, exam papers for medical and paramedical courses will be evaluated under one roof, monitored by CCTV cameras. This step enhances the transparency and integrity of the evaluation process,” he said.
Currently, exam papers are sent to evaluators, often at distant locations, and strict precautions are in place to maintain anonymity between evaluators and examinees. However, Dr. Aggarwal, who took charge over a month ago, identified inefficiencies in the existing system. “Delays often occur due to logistical challenges, with evaluators sometimes exceeding the expected timeframe. On-the-spot evaluation will allow us to declare results promptly,” he explained.
Two halls in the university’s administrative block have been earmarked for this purpose. Dr. Aggarwal stated, “These halls, currently used for other office work, will be converted into evaluation spaces equipped with CCTV cameras. Papers will be brought to these halls post-exam, and experts will evaluate them there. The university will cover all costs related to the evaluators’ travel, accommodation, and hospitality.”
UHS oversees examinations and result declarations for 145 affiliated institutions across Haryana, encompassing medical, dental, nursing, paramedical, pharmacy, and physiotherapy colleges. With over 12,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the new system is expected to streamline the evaluation process and enhance credibility.
“This change represents a significant improvement for all stakeholders involved, ensuring that the university maintains high standards in education and administration,” added Dr. Aggarwal.
