Lucknow: Agriculture in Uttar Pradesh has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2017, according to statements from the state administration. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared that farmers, revered as the food providers or annadatas, constitute the fundamental pillar of the region’s economic strength and overall prosperity.
Affirming the ongoing efforts of the administration, the Chief Minister asserted that the leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to guarantee comprehensive support for cultivators, covering every stage from initial seed acquisition to final market distribution.
Historical challenges that once left agricultural workers burdened by debt and reliant on middlemen have steadily given way to direct financial support, improved irrigation access, and transparent procurement processes.
Long-pending irrigation infrastructure projects have reached completion, significantly boosting regional productivity. Uttar Pradesh currently accounts for 21 percent of the total foodgrain production nationwide, while the agricultural growth rate has expanded from 8 percent to 18 percent.
Furthermore, the state maintains a leading position across the country in the production of milk, sugarcane, and wheat.
To ensure equitable compensation for agricultural labor, procurement statistics indicate that more than 519 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were acquired from over 80 lakh farmers between 2017 and March 2026.
Direct benefit transfers facilitated payments exceeding ₹1,03,833 crore straight to the bank accounts of cultivators. Building upon this established framework, the minimum support price for paddy has seen an additional increase of ₹71 per quintal for the current season, he said.
Safeguarding the rights and fostering the financial well-being of the farming community remains a foundational priority for the government.
