Chandigarh, April 13: Wrestler-turned-MLA Vinesh Phogat on Sunday announced that she will use the Rs 4 crore cash reward and residential plot awarded by the Haryana Government to establish an international-level sports academy for young athletes.
In a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook, Phogat said, “The true victory is when a player’s hard work is honoured. Now it’s time to repay all the love, respect, and trust the people have given me.”
She said her role as a public representative has deepened her sense of duty beyond the mat. “My responsibilities are no longer just as a player, but also towards thousands of dreams that seek to build a future in a safe environment through sports.”
Phogat added that setting up a world-class academy has been a long-standing dream. “The reward amount is not just a prize — it is an opportunity, a means to fulfill that dream I’ve held onto for years.”
She said the proposed academy will provide young athletes not only the best resources but also the respect and motivation every sportsperson deserves. “This isn’t just my dream — it’s ours,” she wrote, calling for public support to bring the initiative to life.
