CHANDIGARH, Jan 23 – Residents of the tricity woke up to a significant change in weather as intermittent rain and thunderstorms lashed Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula on Friday morning. The sudden precipitation, which began around 1 am, successfully ended a prolonged dry spell and led to a noticeable dip in the regional temperature.

Heavy cloud cover persisted throughout the night and into the morning hours, keeping the sun hidden and maintaining a chill across the area. Local meteorological officials noted that the overcast conditions and rain were a direct result of an active weather system passing over northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned that this wet spell is expected to continue, potentially bringing more thunderstorms and lightning to the region. Forecasters noted that gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph, are likely to occur at isolated places during this period.

“The current conditions could further intensify the prevailing cold wave across the region,” an IMD official directly said while discussing the impact of the rain on local climate patterns.

Looking ahead, the weather department noted that the rainy weather is not over yet. According to the latest forecast, light to moderate rain is likely to persist at a few places in Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula through Saturday.
