BENGALURU, April 21:— A day after the body of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash was found at his Bengaluru residence, police on Sunday revealed that the retired officer was murdered by his wife during a heated argument over a property dispute.

Investigators said the wife threw chilli powder in his eyes, tied him with ropes, and stabbed him to death with a knife. A glass bottle was also used in the assault.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Bengaluru, stated that information about the murder was received at around 4 a.m. on Sunday.

“Our team reached the spot immediately after receiving the alert. The scene suggested a violent struggle,” the ACP said.

The retired officer’s wife reportedly confessed the crime to another police officer, prompting the police to intervene.

Both the wife and the couple’s daughter were taken into custody and questioned for nearly 12 hours.

An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son.

Om Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS officer, served as Karnataka’s Director General of Police in 2015 before retiring from service.
