Shimla/ Chandigarh, 02 November 2024: Himachal Pradesh is witnessing an unusual weather shift, with temperatures rising despite the expected onset of colder conditions. Notably, November 1 recorded exceptional heat across several parts of the state.
This October, rainfall in Himachal Pradesh hit a four-year low, and the Meteorological Department forecasts no rain for the first week of November. The Indian Meteorological Department has indicated clear weather for the upcoming week. If this dry spell continues, a drought-like situation could emerge in the region.
November’s start has already set new temperature records in multiple cities. Clear skies persisted across the state, including the capital, Shimla, on Diwali day (Wednesday) and Thursday. The highest temperature on Thursday reached 35.3°C in Hamirpur.
Typically, Himachal receives around 25.1 mm of rain in October; this year, only 0.7 mm was recorded. Kalpa marked an unusual high of 40°C on Friday, a stark contrast to its previous record of 24.5°C in 1984. Record-high November temperatures were also reported in Chamba (14°C), Shimla (8°C), and after four years, in Kangra, Solan, and Manali.
