Fatehgarh Churidi, 24 October 2024: An elderly woman was killed in a road accident on Thursday in front of Dana Mandi on Batala Road.
She has been identified as 60-year-old Joginder Kaur, wife of Sant Singh.
Reports indicate that Kaur was struck by a speeding tractor trolley as she attempted to cross the road on her way to work in her village of Shamsherpur.
According to her brother-in-law, Kulwant Singh, and local village sarpanch Gurmeet Singh, Kaur was hit with such force that she died instantly at the scene. The driver of the tractor trolley fled the accident site, prompting demands from the community for immediate action and the arrest of the suspect.
“This was a senseless loss of life. Joginder was a hardworking woman, and now her family is left in grief,” Gurmeet Singh expressed, stressing the need for justice.
Adding to the tragedy, the family was preparing for the upcoming wedding of Kaur’s granddaughter on November 15, turning what should have been a joyous occasion into a time of sorrow.
Community members are calling for stricter measures to ensure the safety of pedestrians on the roads and accountability for reckless driving.
