GURUGRAM, Jan. 1, 2026: A 44-year-old woman and her lover were arrested on Thursday for allegedly attacking her husband with an axe-like tool in Khoh village, Gurugram police said. The victim, Shiv Shankar, was seriously injured and admitted to ESIC Hospital in Faridabad.
Police said the couple married in 2012 and have a son. The case came to light after Shankar’s sister-in-law filed a complaint, alleging that he had recently discovered his wife Poonam’s affair with her colleague, Mankhush, also known as Mintu. “The dispute over the affair had escalated in recent weeks, prompting this criminal act,” the police spokesperson said.
According to the investigation, on Tuesday, Poonam lured her husband to the Jharna temple. While returning on a scooter near VPS School, another man allegedly forced their vehicle to fall. Mankhush then restrained Shankar from behind, while Poonam struck him multiple times on the face with the axe-like tool. Both fled the scene, leaving Shankar critically injured.
Police registered an attempt-to-murder case at the IMT Manesar police station and arrested Mankhush (25), a resident of Khagaria, Bihar, along with Poonam, on Thursday.
“During interrogation, the accused admitted to having a relationship for the past six months,” the spokesperson said. “They claimed the plan to kill Shankar was devised after repeated domestic disputes over their affair.”
Shankar, a resident of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, works in Manesar and lives in Khoh village with his family. Doctors had earlier declared him unfit to give a statement when police first visited the hospital.
Authorities said further investigation is ongoing.
