BENGALURU, June 30: In a chilling discovery early Sunday, the body of an unidentified woman—believed to be between 30 and 35 years old—was found stuffed in a sack and dumped inside a garbage truck under the Chennammanakere Achukattu police station limits, police said.
The body, which was tied and packed in a gunny bag, is suspected to have been disposed of sometime between Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday. A local resident, while disposing of garbage, noticed the suspicious sack and alerted the police.
Personnel from the jurisdictional police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body. A case of murder has been registered, and the area was cordoned off for forensic examination.
CCTV footage from the vicinity is being closely examined. Investigators believe the body may have been transported to the dumping site in an auto-rickshaw, possibly during the night to avoid detection.
“Preliminary observations suggest smothering, but we are awaiting post-mortem results to confirm the exact cause of death and determine whether any sexual assault was involved,” said a senior police officer overseeing the investigation.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. Police teams have begun tracing missing persons’ reports from the past week and are also inquiring with nearby localities for any leads.
“We’re treating it as a case of murder. It appears to have been a deliberate attempt to dispose of the body discreetly. We are following multiple leads,” the officer added.
The incident has shocked residents of the area, and police presence has been stepped up as part of the ongoing probe.
