Gurdaspur, 10 November 2024: A 30-year-old man, Gurjit Singh, was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Shahpur Jajan village of Gurdaspur district.
According to reports, he was returning home from a wedding ceremony when an unknown vehicle struck him on the main road near Fatehgarh Bangles in Dera Baba Nanak, leading to his immediate death.
According to his wife, Paramjit Kaur, and a local resident, Balwinder Singh Sahuria, Gurjit had attended a wedding ceremony in Patti Rampur and was returning home when the accident occurred on the main road near Fatehgarh Bangles in Dera Baba Nanak.
Eyewitnesses reported that an unknown vehicle struck Gurjit, killing him instantly.
The police at Dera Baba Nanak station were informed of the incident, and a case has been registered against the unidentified vehicle under Section 106 BNS.
Paramjit Kaur, who has been bedridden for three years due to a severe spinal fracture, expressed her distress, noting that her husband was the sole breadwinner for their family, including their 10-year-old son.
With Gurjit’s death, the family faces financial hardship. They have appealed to social service organizations and the Punjab government to waive off their bank debts and provide financial assistance.
The deceased’s body was sent to Civil Hospital Batala for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
