Chandigarh/Sydney, 09 November 2024: Deputy Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri, received a warm welcome from the Punjabi community upon his arrival at Sydney Airport, Australia, for the 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Annual Conference (November 3-8, 2024).
Speaking at the event, Rouri praised the global achievements of Punjabis, acknowledging their contributions to enhancing Punjab’s reputation.
He mentioned the crucial role of the diaspora in fulfilling Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of a prosperous ‘Rangala Punjab’ and expressed gratitude for their continued support in uplifting Punjab’s image internationally.
The 67th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Annual Conference took place from November 3-8, 2024, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
This event marked a milestone as it was the first time the CPA New South Wales Branch hosted the conference and the first instance of an Australian state hosting the annual CPA gathering.
The theme was “Engage, Empower, Sustain: Charting the Course for Resilient Democracy,” focusing on reinforcing democracy, human rights, and governance across the Commonwealth.
The conference brought together over 700 delegates, including Speakers, Presiding Officers, and parliamentarians from nearly 180 member legislatures. Key discussions spanned diverse topics such as the impact of Artificial Intelligence on parliamentary processes, tackling human trafficking, and promoting inclusive participation in legislatures.
