Hoshiarpur, June 19: A 20-year-old man was shot dead late Wednesday night by three unidentified assailants near Shahpur Ghata village on the Garhshankar-Nangal road, police said on Thursday. The attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

The victim, Aryan of Seehwan village, was returning from Ludhiana with his 27-year-old relative Naveen Kumar after purchasing garments for their clothing shop, according to Hoshiarpur superintendent of police (investigation) Mukesh Kumar.

The incident took place when the two stopped near Shahpur Ghata as Naveen began feeling unwell. “While Naveen had stepped out of the car, three masked men on a bike approached and opened fire at Aryan, who was in the driver’s seat. He was hit in the head and chest and died on the spot,” said Kumar.

Police were alerted after the body was taken to Garhshankar civil hospital. Deputy superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh confirmed that a case of murder has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits.

“Preliminary evidence suggests the attackers had a specific target. We are exploring all angles, including personal enmity and business-related issues,” said a police official involved in the probe.

Aryan’s sudden death has shocked the local community in Seehwan, where he was known as an active and ambitious youth involved in running a small business with his family.
