CHANDIGARH/JALANDHAR/LUDHIANA, January 22: Punjab Police have intensified their campaign against the hazardous Chinese kite string, seizing 80,879 bundles and registering 90 FIRs over the last 20 days.
The initiative, led by Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, is part of an effort to ensure public safety and prevent fatalities linked to the banned product ahead of Republic Day-2025.
Special DGP Shukla, accompanied by Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma and Ludhiana Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal, inspected local market areas in the two cities, urging kite sellers to refrain from dealing in the illegal string.
Shopkeepers were advised to report any instances of its sale and warned of strict action against offenders.
Supervising security arrangements for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, Special DGP Shukla also ordered an increase in police checkpoints across Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
Raids and strategic operations have been launched in critical areas, with heightened surveillance in crowded market areas, malls, and other public spaces.
Directives have been issued to Commissioners and SSPs statewide to intensify vehicle checks at all checkpoints.
“Thorough inspections will ensure maximum security,” the Special DGP said, reaffirming the commitment of Punjab Police to maintaining peace and public safety during the celebrations.
