Bathinda, March 14— Bathinda police arrested six men involved in the recent robbery near Bhucho after a brief encounter on Friday, recovering an AK-47 rifle used in the crime. Among the accused, two are armymen who allegedly stole the weapon from their unit, police said.

SP City Narinder Singh stated that the gang had looted around ₹8,000 in cash and five mobile phones at gunpoint. “Based on intelligence inputs about their presence in Bhucho, we launched a search operation,” he said.

During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle with a Bathinda registration number. One of the suspects opened fire using the stolen AK-47, prompting police to retaliate.

“In the exchange of fire, one of the accused, Satnam Singh, sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital. The remaining five were arrested on the spot,” Singh added.

Police are investigating how the armymen managed to steal the rifle and whether the gang was involved in other crimes.
