CHANDIGARH, April 10: – A man from Dhanas has been booked for allegedly morphing and circulating objectionable images of a woman from Sohana, along with her sister and mother, on social media to extort money, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Rony, is currently absconding. According to the complaint, Rony accessed the victims’ photos from their social media accounts, edited them, and shared the morphed images across various platforms.
“I warned him several times but he didn’t stop. He kept posting fake images, defaming us online, and later started threatening us for money,” the woman told police.
Investigators said the accused has no personal connection with the victims and is known to be a repeat offender.
Rony has been booked under sections 74 (outraging a woman’s modesty), 296 (obscene acts), 308(2) (extortion), and 351(1) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Police are currently tracing his whereabouts.
