ZIRAKPUR, April 21:— Three Aam Aadmi Party municipal councillors from Dera Bassi — Harjit Singh Minta, Sunita Jain, and Usha Rana — joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at an event in Zirakpur on Sunday.
The trio had previously switched from Congress to AAP following the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
Their latest political shift was welcomed by the BJP leadership as a sign of changing political winds in the state.
“This is a testament to the party’s growing popularity and strong leadership that people in Punjab have started leaving AAP before 2027,” said CM Saini.
He stated that the BJP’s governance model at the Centre and in Haryana since 2014 had instilled confidence among voters.
“Once the BJP forms its government in Punjab in 2027, every problem will be addressed, and development will accelerate,” he said.
Taking aim at the Congress, Saini remarked that the party had “lost people’s faith” not just in Punjab but across the country.
The event also saw the presence of senior BJP leaders including former Union minister Preneet Kaur, former Haryana assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta, Mohali district BJP president Sanjeev Vasisht, state secretary Mukesh Rana, and party leaders Sushil Rana, Manpreet Sandhu, and SMS Sandhu.
