New Delhi, April 25 — Amid rising tensions with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday personally reached out to chief ministers across the country, instructing them to ensure no Pakistani national remains in India beyond the deadline set for their departure, sources confirmed.
The directive comes a day after India revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals effective April 27, and advised Indian citizens in Pakistan to return home immediately. The diplomatic move follows Tuesday’s deadly militant assault in Pahalgam that left 26 people—mostly tourists—killed.
Sources said Shah emphasized the urgency of the situation in his calls to the state leaders, asking them to actively identify and deport any Pakistani citizens still residing in their jurisdictions past the cut-off date.
“States have been asked to compile lists of Pakistani nationals currently staying and initiate steps for their deportation without delay,” a senior official said.
The decision signals a hardening of India’s stance as it tightens security and border protocols in the wake of the attack.
