Amritsar, April 25— Days after the deadly attack in Pahalgam, a joint team of the Border Security Force and Punjab Police recovered a major cache of arms and explosives along the Ajnala border belt on Friday, raising concerns over cross-border smuggling via drones.
The consignment — suspected to have been dropped by drone — included 4.5 kilograms of RDX, six detonators, two remotes, five hand grenades, four pistols, eight magazines, 220 live cartridges, two batteries and two power circuits.
“This appears to be another drone drop,” said Amritsar Rural Senior Superintendent of Police Maninder Singh. “We acted swiftly on inputs from local farmers who spotted suspicious material while harvesting their fields near Chak Bala village.”
The seizure was made during a search operation conducted near the Shahpur border outpost, following the alert from residents.
“A case is being registered, and further investigation is under way,” the SSP added.
The seizure has come at a time of heightened alert along the Punjab border in the wake of the recent militant strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, prompting security forces to intensify ground surveillance and aerial monitoring.
