UT Education Dept Seeks Sports Associations’ Help to Boost Athletics

CHANDIGARH, May 20— In an effort to strengthen sports development in city schools, the UT education department has invited proposals from recognised sports associations to provide technical expertise, training, and support, amid a shortage of professional coaches within its own system.

The initiative is part of an expression of interest (EOI) issued by the department, which notes that while schools possess substantial sports infrastructure and dedicated grounds, much of it remains underutilized due to a lack of trained coaching staff.

According to the department, partnering with experienced sports associations will help bridge this gap. “Associations will provide qualified coaches, equipment, and technical support for various disciplines. Their role will also include identifying and developing potential champion athletes at the school level,” said a senior official.

UT Director of School Education, Harsuhinderpal Singh Brar, said the initiative is aligned with the vision of UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. “This collaboration supports our larger goal of promoting sports and building a nasha mukt (drug-free) Chandigarh,” Brar said.

Recognised associations interested in partnering with the department can submit their proposals by May 29.
