JALANDHAR, May 27 — Parminder Singh Dhingra, a 40-year-old lawyer and president of the All India Sikh Students Federation, died after being shot during a heated confrontation with a neighbour over a parking dispute in Grover Colony on Monday evening. Eyewitnesses say he was left bleeding without timely medical attention, leading to his death from excessive blood loss.

According to residents, the dispute began when Dhingra objected to the way a neighbour had parked their vehicle, which quickly escalated into a verbal altercation and then violence. He was shot in the leg during the confrontation, allegedly by the neighbour.

“He was still alive after being shot. Had he been taken to the hospital immediately, he might have survived. The police just stood there,” said a local resident who witnessed the incident. Residents allege that police arrived at the scene soon after the shooting but failed to act promptly or provide immediate aid.

A forensic team later sealed the house where the incident occurred, and the body was sent for postmortem. Police have launched a formal investigation and said they are examining all leads, including the suspected involvement of the neighbour.

Dhingra was a widely respected figure, known for both his legal practice and his leadership in the Sikh student movement. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, and elderly parents.

The incident has triggered significant unrest in Grover Colony, with demonstrators accusing the police of negligence. “This was not just an act of violence — it was a systemic failure. He could have been saved,” said one protester.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements. While no arrests had been made by Tuesday evening, police officials said efforts are underway to identify and detain those responsible.

The area remains tense as calls for justice grow louder. Community leaders have demanded a fair and transparent probe, and an internal review of the police’s response at the scene.
