Panchkula, June 9 – Acting on the directions of Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj, the Panchkula Traffic Police have launched a strict crackdown on drink-driving to improve road safety and reduce accident rates in the city.
Traffic SHO Inspector Sunil Kumar said that special checkpoints were set up across key city locations on Friday and Saturday nights. Over 900 motorists were tested using alco-sensors, out of which 56 were found driving under the influence of alcohol and were immediately issued challans.
The drive isn’t limited to private vehicles alone. “We are checking heavy vehicle drivers, including truck operators, with breathalysers. Safety on highways and city roads is equally important,” said Inspector Kumar.
ACP Traffic Sukar Pal Singh issued a stern warning to the public, calling drink-driving a “grave threat to public safety.” He added, “Those who drive under the influence not only endanger their own lives but also pose a serious risk to others on the road.”
He urged motorists to avoid driving after consuming alcohol and appealed for responsible behavior behind the wheel. “This campaign will continue, and strict action will be taken against violators,” Singh emphasized.
The intensified drive is part of an ongoing effort by Panchkula Police to curb traffic violations and prevent fatalities caused by reckless driving.
