Jalandhar/Ludhiana, SEPT 13: A major political challenge has surfaced for the state government as the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha initiated a five-day protest targeting the residences of key cabinet leaders and the Assembly Speaker across several districts. Demonstrators have gathered outside the venues in Faridkot, Jandiala, Sunam, Bhoa, Hoshiarpur, Muktsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana to demand immediate official attention toward pressing agricultural concerns.
Farmer leader Sarwan Pandher maintained that the organization will determine an intensified phase of action at its upcoming September 16 meeting if administrative talks are not initiated promptly. He affirmed that while immediate grievances center around power supply and fertilizer availability for paddy crops, broader issues require urgent consideration.
The agitation encompasses wider demands, including guaranteed state procurement at minimum support prices for key crops like basmati, maize, moong, mustard, and potatoes. Furthermore, representatives are pressing for comprehensive debt waivers, assistance for families affected by suicide, environmental policies, and the withdrawal of the Land Pooling Policy. Additional points raised include trade expansion, protections against forced land acquisition, and legislative resolutions regarding cooperative, agricultural, and energy frameworks.
