Jammu, July 25: An Agniveer of the Indian Army was killed and two other soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion during a routine patrol in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district on Thursday, officials said.

According to officials, the incident occurred when an Army patrol team inadvertently stepped on a landmine near their forward post.

“One soldier died on the spot and two others sustained injuries in the blast,” a senior Army official said.

The fallen soldier has been identified as Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment.

The Army’s White Knight Corps paid tribute to the slain Agniveer in a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter): “All ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment, who made the supreme sacrifice while on an area domination patrol in the general area of Krishna Ghati Brigade on 25 July 2025, following a mine blast. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.”

The condition of the two injured soldiers is stated to be stable, and they are undergoing treatment at a nearby Army medical facility.

Security forces frequently conduct area domination patrols along the Line of Control in Poonch, where landmines are part of anti-infiltration measures.
