Chandigarh, Aug 1 — All post offices in Punjab and Chandigarh circles will remain closed on Saturday, August 3, due to a planned system upgrade, the Department of Posts (DoP) announced on Friday.

The move is part of the department’s transition to the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform—an upgrade aimed at making postal operations smarter, faster, and more user-friendly. A senior official said the shutdown will affect 20 head post offices, 608 sub-post offices, and all branch and operative offices across the region.

“No public transactions will be conducted on August 2 and 3, as we migrate data and validate systems for a smooth switchover,” the official added.

The APT rollout began on July 22 in a pilot phase in Chandigarh, and selected post offices in Mohali and Jalandhar. The final implementation across Punjab is set for August 4.

According to the department, the APT system will enhance user experience, speed up service delivery, and enable secure, efficient and digitally advanced operations.

The DoP has assured that all operations will resume as normal from Monday.
