Jalandhar, Aug 2: Under Punjab’s ongoing ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign, police in Goraya, Jalandhar district, have seized property worth ₹70.7 lakh belonging to an alleged drug trafficker and her son. The seizure was carried out under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, following approval from the competent authority in New Delhi.
Inspector Sikandar Singh Virk, Station House Officer of Goraya, said the property — owned by Jagiro, wife of Jaila Ram — was identified as being acquired through proceeds from drug trafficking. “A detailed seizure proposal was submitted, and the competent authority granted clearance for forfeiture,” said Virk. After approval, a police team visited the premises and affixed a copy of the order on the property, formally notifying the accused of the confiscation.
According to police records, Jagiro has five NDPS cases registered against her, while her son, Vijay Kumar, is facing 10 separate cases under the same Act. Authorities suspect that the property was accumulated through the family’s involvement in the drug trade, operated largely by Vijay Kumar. The property has now been frozen as per official directives.
Officials reaffirmed their zero-tolerance approach toward drug-related crimes. “Such actions will continue against those found dealing in narcotics. The campaign will not relent,” a police spokesperson said.
