New Delhi, August 25: Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal on Monday asserted that a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) is the demand of farmers across India, not just those from Punjab and Haryana.

Speaking at the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ at Jantar Mantar, Dallewal said the farmers’ gathering was aimed at presenting collective demands before the government. “In today’s mahapanchayat, we tried that farmers from across the country arrive here to put forth our demands… We want to tell the government that the demand for MSP is not only by the farmers of Punjab and Haryana, but also by farmers across the country,” he noted.

The mahapanchayat, attended by farmers from several states, focused on three primary issues: a law guaranteeing MSP on all crops, keeping agriculture, dairy, poultry, and fisheries sectors out of any proposed agreement with the United States, and withdrawal of police cases registered during the 2020–21 farmers’ agitation.

The congregation comes nearly four years after the farmers’ movement at Delhi’s borders, which had forced the repeal of the three controversial farm laws. Organizers said the mahapanchayat would remain peaceful, and urged farmers and supporters to continue showing solidarity.

Police said around 1,200 personnel had been deployed at the site to maintain law and order. A senior officer confirmed the arrangements, saying authorities were prepared to ensure the protest proceeded without incident.
