Patiala, Sept. 3: Authorities have issued an urgent flood alert for parts of Patiala district after heavy rainfall in the upstream areas of Ambala and Kala Amb pushed the Tangri River close to the danger mark, officials said Wednesday.

The river level has already risen significantly in Ambala and is expected to swell further downstream in Patiala within the next 10 to 12 hours, prompting an immediate alert for low-lying areas in and around Devigarh.

“People should remain vigilant and strictly avoid venturing near the river,” an official statement noted. “All residents are advised to follow instructions from local authorities and ensure their safety.”

According to the alert, several villages face potential flooding if water levels continue to rise. On the right side of the river, the areas identified are Mehmodpur Rudki, Devinagar, Harigarh, Rohar Jagir, Lelan Jagir, Dudhangujran, Adaltiwala, and Maghar Sahib. On the left side, the vulnerable villages include Mohalgarh, Khansa, Rattakhera, Aujan, Khatauli, Ganeshpur, Kharabgarh, Bibipur, Jodhpur, Budhmor, and Sadikpur Biran.

Officials said the warning is being issued as a precaution, given the intensity of rainfall reported upstream. “The situation is being closely monitored, and relief measures are ready to be deployed if needed,” an official mentioned.

Residents in the notified villages have been urged to stay alert for updates and avoid unnecessary movement near the riverbanks until conditions stabilize.
