Washington, Sept 15: President Donald Trump has blamed President Joe Biden’s immigration policies for the killing of Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, an Indian-origin motel manager who was brutally murdered in Dallas last week.
Trump, posting on Truth Social, said the suspect, 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez of Cuba, was an “Illegal Alien” who should have been removed from the United States. “Being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER,” Trump wrote, adding that Biden’s “lenient policies” allowed the man to remain in the country.
Nagamallaiah, 50, originally from Karnataka, India, was attacked with a machete on Sept. 10 at the Downtown Suites Motel, where he lived and worked. Police said the assault happened in front of his wife and 18-year-old son. The Indian-American community in Texas has been left shaken by the killing.
Cobos-Martinez has been charged with capital murder. U.S. immigration officials confirmed he had previously been detained but was released in January 2025 after Cuba declined to accept his deportation.
The victim’s funeral was held Sept. 13 in Flower Mound, Texas, where relatives and close friends gathered to mourn his loss. A fundraiser created to support his family has collected more than $321,000.
The case has reignited debate over immigration enforcement and raised questions about how U.S. authorities should handle deportees when their home countries refuse to take them back.
