Panchkula, OCT 19: The incident occurred around 11 pm while constable Deepak, posted at Surajpur Traffic Police station, was on duty at a naka set up to check drunken driving.
“A speeding truck broke through the police barricade and crushed constable Deepak. The driver fled the scene immediately,” an official said.
The truck driver was later arrested near ITBP Bhanu. Authorities said the accused has been subjected to a drug test and further investigation is underway. A case has been registered against him.
Deepak, a resident of Jind district, was serving in Panchkula at the time of the incident. Police have initiated additional safety measures at checkpoints to prevent similar accidents.
