Chandigarh, October 24: The Punjab government has announced a state-wide educational initiative to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, aiming to connect the younger generation with the state’s spiritual and cultural roots.
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the program will run from October 27 to November 30 across all government and private colleges as well as universities. “These seminars will not only honour the memory of Hind Di Chadar, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, but also inspire our youth to follow his path of courage, equality, and humanity,” Bains said.
According to the minister, the seminars will focus on the Guru’s life philosophy, moral strength, and timeless teachings. Scholars and academic experts will explain how Guru Tegh Bahadur sacrificed his life to defend religious freedom and human dignity. “The idea is to help students understand that higher education is not limited to academic success but also about building moral and spiritual strength,” he noted.
Officials in the Education Department said detailed circulars and schedules have already been sent to heads of institutions to ensure that the events are conducted “with complete religious dignity and respect.”
“The initiative reflects the government’s intent to make education more holistic,” a senior education officer said. “It’s about creating a generation that knows its roots and draws inspiration from its history.”
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government believes the program will instill pride and awareness among students about Punjab’s rich spiritual heritage and the supreme sacrifices of its Gurus.
“This is not just a tribute,” Bains added. “It is a reminder that Guru Sahib’s message of peace, tolerance, and fearlessness remains deeply relevant in today’s world.”
