Chandigarh, November 6: The Punjab government has approved filling 110 new posts in the Sports Medical Cadre to improve healthcare facilities for sportspersons and generate employment in the state.

The recruitment drive includes 14 Group-A, 16 Group-B, and 80 Group-C positions. These posts will be offered on an initial three-year contractual basis, extendable depending on performance. Officials said the appointments are expected to strengthen medical assistance for athletes at the district level.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to creating a transparent and merit-based hiring process. “We have provided government jobs to the youth without bribes or recommendations. These new recruitments will also follow the same principle,” he said.

The new cadre will provide sports medicine services in districts with high athlete participation such as Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Mohali. The government said the presence of qualified sports doctors, physiotherapists, and paramedical professionals will help athletes recover faster from injuries and perform better.

Officials added that the initiative aligns with Punjab’s broader goal of building a modern sports infrastructure and ensuring scientific support systems for players preparing for national and international competitions.
